Starting private pilot training
Ask about lesson structure, ground preparation, scheduling, and the aircraft you will use. Your private pilot plan should explain how you will prepare for solo flight and the practical test.
Connect with approved independent flight instructors at Montgomery County Airpark (KGAI). Every approved instructor is an FAA-certificated CFI and an Advantage Aero Club member. Members arrange and pay for instruction directly with their CFI; aircraft rental is billed separately.
Only club-approved FAA-certificated instructor members may teach in club aircraft. They must meet membership, aircraft checkout, qualification, and insurance requirements. The student receiving instruction must also be a club member.
Choose a club-approved independent CFI and agree on your lesson schedule, instruction fees, and payment directly with that instructor. Both you and your CFI must be club members.
FAA-certificated CFIs may apply for club membership and instructor authorization. Arrange instruction and payment directly with member students. You may not teach a non-member student in club aircraft.

Discuss your logbook, existing qualifications, and the instructor’s privileges for your intended training. Instrument rating preparation needs an appropriately qualified instrument instructor; commercial and CFI goals need a plan for the applicable aircraft and requirements.
Tell the instructor about your recent experience and the aircraft or avionics you want to fly. Discuss flight reviews, instrument proficiency, and transition training as appropriate, then confirm the club checkout and approval requirements.
Our base at Montgomery County Airpark gives Maryland and DMV pilots a place to arrange aircraft access and independent instruction together. Contact us to discuss an instructor match and current availability; instructor membership does not guarantee a particular lesson slot or specialty.
Already have a CFI? Invite them to apply for instructor membership and authorization. They can teach you in club aircraft once both memberships, the instructor approval, and the required aircraft checkout are complete.
